There is an old saying "the rich are just like us, except they have more money." We can apply that same sentiment for the political class... "politicians are just like us, except they're more important." Man of the people & former Boulder Mayor, Will Toor, personified this ethic on August 30, at a hearing before the Boulder County Commissioners and the Planning Commission which was attended by hundreds of Gunbarrel residents.
The earliest of our neighbors showed up before 3:00 p.m. to ensure that they would have a seat for the 4:00 p.m. hearing. It is a good thing they did because the entire front row of the hearing room was reserved for public employees and many attendees were forced into the hallways and overflow room.
At 6:46 p.m., Will Tour, Man of the People, graced the County Courthouse with his presence and breezed into the hearing room. He waited just minutes before sharing his insights with the panel. By 7:14 p.m., he was away; no doubt off to champion some other meaningful cause. Many of our friends and neighbors were present right until the bitter end around 10:45 p.m.
Will Toor might be out of public office now, but he still embodies all of the impulses of an entitled politician. While Will wasn't present to hear the comments of other concerned Boulder County residents, he can rest assured that his brief appearance was noticed by all those who were there in good faith.
